Other Robots Get Smarter So They Shall Walk and Dance
By: Monty K Reed  -  1/24/2010

Running Robot Work: Soon, They Shall Walk and Dance by Monty K Reed

As technology improves other technology improves.  Hardware gets smaller and more powerful allowing us to make the software more powerful.  As other robot labs develop better robots we get closer to the dream of giving the gift of walking.

When I see other robots like this one from Sony, that can dance. Click to YouTube  I can see the dream is becoming more and more real.  I see the work we are doing in our lab is resulting in better robots every week.

I will be demonstrating the LIFESUIT in Georgetown (Our New Hood) as part of the local Winter Arts Celebration.  It is a chance to let the locals know what we are all about and to showcase some of our new upgrades to the current LIFESUIT.  The demonstration is billed as "Dancing with Robots"  This new display of the abilities of the LIFESUIT will make me look like I can dance.  So with the LIFESUIT I do think I can dance.  (like the TV show).

They Shall Walk is not just about building robots that help people, it is not just about the robotic LIFESUIT exoskeleton, it is about more.  With the LIFESUIT a paralyzed person will be able to: Walk, run, dance and play with their kids.

Watch Asimo Run Click Here to YouTube   and some more about Asimo from Honda dancing running and more Click here to YouTube When you look at this last video one of the things being explained is the "Key Fob, Name Tag". The man in the video is holding it up to the camera.  This "Key Fob" is used to let the robot know where the operator is in space.

Do you remember when you first started riding a bike?  Imagine being paralyzed and not being able to do just that.   This next robot from Murata (Murata Boy) can ride a bike.  It demonstrates some more possibility with robots.  Eventually paralyzed persons wearing a LIFESUIT will be able to walk, dance and ride a bike too.  Murata Boy Click to YouTube

As with my vision to help paralyzed persons walk, many people have told me I am crazy to think this will become a reality.  I have proved them wrong.  We still need more money for the medical trial but the LIFESUIT is almost ready.  You can help by giving to They Shall Walk online or in the mail.  You can also tell people about what we do and share our twitter, facebook pages and the website www.TheyShallWalk.org  You can also invit us to come out and speak to your; club, group, school, company, conference or convention.
