I received an email from a Graduate student from the UK.  He wanted to reference me in a paper he was writing.  He mentioned he had read about me in a text book for his Future Textiles class.  The book Textile Futures: Fashion, Design and Technology By Bradley Quinn .  I just went on Amazon and ordered the book.  Then I began to read….

“A robotic exoskeleton prototype called the Lifesuit (LIFESUIT) is being developed by a medical research association known as They Shall Walk. The Lifesuit was invented in 1986 by Monty Reed, a US Army Ranger. After sustaining a sky-diving injury that left him immobilized, Reed used his personal experience as the basis for designing a wearable robot that could walk for the wearer. By 2003, Reed had advanced the prototype to the extent that it was powered by compressed air and able to record a human gait and then repeat its strides. Reed’s Lifesuit has advanced considerably since then, enabling the wearer to walk at the speed of about 2.5 miles per hour and even ascend and descend stairs. …”

You really need to buy book get the paper version like I did. You will love it and it is a must read for anyone interested in exokeletons, robotics, textiles and new technology.

In the pages of this book you will read about “biosynthetic muscle fibres.. crafted from Nitinal shape memory alloy (aka NiTinol)…”

The author talks about how I continue to research the fibres to “explore the potential to combine live muscle tissue with synthetic fibres”

There is more to the story as I write this we are preparing to expand into a new 7000sf lab facility in the Seattle area were we will be growing the new LIFESUIT biosynthetic muscle fibres. It is very exciting to be continuing this research that was based on dreams and visions that have come true.

More about the background, history and development of the LIFESUIT and my story can be found in the pages of the book “Get STARTED-don’t quit

Available after February 11, 2012. pre order the book today.
