Graphic Novel for They Shall Walk

Dave Fagan is interested in doing a Graphic Novel for They Shall Walk. Be sure to go to his Kickstarter page and support his proposal. When that one is funded he will be able to help us.

I met Dave at a gathering in North Seattle hosted by Brian Decker.  I had a chance to share a little about They Shall Walk and the visions I had in the hospital back in 1986 that lead to the development of the LIFESUIT.  After a few questions I was encouraged to share more about the trip to India and my prayer life.

Check this out.

Creature Academy: The Legacy- a steampunk graphic novel

At the end of the meeting Dave offered to help They Shall Walk with a graphic novel that could share the story.  Because of the international interest, a graphic novel would be great for sharing with children as well as adults from all nations.  By making a graphic version of the story a person who does not even speak (or read) English would be able to ‘read’ the story.

I shared with Dave about my experience as a young person with a learning disability and how graphic novels were a way I could learn even though I had a lot of trouble reading words.  As I grew up there were a few graphic novels that were educational, but for the most part I was stuck flipping through magazines hoping to learn.

A graphic novel could serve They Shall Walk on so many levels.

The next step is to encourage people to look at the Kick Starter Proposal and help fund the next few thousand dollars that need to be  funded in order for the graphic novel to be published. Kevin Hanna is a bit more well known in the graphic novel arena and is working with Dave to put the project together.  After the Kickstarter project is published the They Shall Walk version will need to have sponsors.

If you are reading this you are one of the fans that may be able to help us get it done.

Think about the They Shall Walk graphic novel and how you would like to be a sponsor.  You could be one of the characters in the book, you could have your product placed in it, your business could be one of the locations in the story, your drink or food could be one of the things that helps the inventor or the lab crew become inspired or empowered.

Have an Emergency Preparedness Meeting: National Preparedness Month

Today I had a chance to talk to staff members at a major hospital, a massage school, a hardware warehouse, an airport, a restaurant and a real estate office with a hundred agents.  What did they all have in common? they were scheduling an Emergency Preparedness meeting.  Everyone needs an emergency preparedness meeting a couple of times a year and some companies have never had one.

PS. Can’t wait to have a Meeting and you are ready to put a kit together? Use this Free online tool

What should you do in the event of an emergency?

In an earthquake should you:

A.  Get under something sturdy

B.  Get in the door way

C.  Run

When I was a kid we were trained to get in the doorway or under something.  After a few decades of studying the results of this training what the experts found out, was that people were being smashed by doors in earthquakes because they were in the doorway.  Smashed fingers, door knobs in the temple etc.. has lead experts to change the advice and the answer to the multiple choice question is

A. Get under something sturdy.

Many people just do not know what to do to get started and so they never get started.  I advise you to get a 2 minute “keep me alive bag” so you have at least begun.  Take a gallon size zip lock bag, add band-aids and any prescription medicine you need, goto the pantry and add peanut butter, crackers and water.  Now put this bag under the seat in your car so you can reach it in the event you are pinned in your car and you can not move, you will be able to stay alive.  A little more effort and you can put together something like the Grab and go bag pictured below.

This is an example of a 3 day kit for 2 people.  It can be used by one person for six days also.

The Shoreline Farmers Market is the official registration site for the: They Shall Walk Car Show and the They Shall Walk and Roll Athon

Over 2000 people attend the event to see the latest research that is being done with They Shall Walk in the Seattle and facility.  Student Ambasadors and Interns join volunteers, sponsors and fans from the community to celebrate the achievements of the past year and have a good time.  Celebrating Shoreline continues in the Fall and the Spring at these events.

For many of the car lovers it is the opening of the car show season and the closing event.  “I take my car out of the garage for the They Shall Walk car show in May and put it away after the October event at the Sears” says Andre M. (one of the car collectors)

One of the favorites with the kid in all of us: Social Ice Cream, Seattle, Homemade ice cream using local ingredients  contact Tracy @  [email protected]

My introduction to Social Ice Cream was the “Bean City Ice Cream” made with chocolate and coffee from Bean City Coffee.  I did not believe Bean City Coffee could taste any better than it does in a cup hot.  I was ‘schooled’ when I took a lick of that ice cream.  MMM.

Bean City Coffee Co, Seattle, Locally roasted coffee

Tim makes a mean cup of joe and he has great conversation with everyone while he pours.  My favorite drink is the ‘Seattle O”  AKA “Shot in the dark” where a cup of drip coffee has a couple of shots of espresso added to it.  This to me is the absolute best test for a great cup of coffee.  If the coffee is good enough to drink straight, black with nothing else in it, it is good coffee.  I will occasionally have a triple tall hazelnut latte but my all time favorite is the ‘Seattle O’.  Bean City Coffee is soo amazing that it passes a test that most coffees just can not do…  A cup full of straight shots of espresso.  That’s right the “Full Monty” drink is 12 ounces of espresso shots.  It takes me back to the first time I had real espresso made by an Italian man in his basement.  He had a full Italian Coffee bar set up with this old shiny machine that looked like a lemon press with a big handle on it.  As he pulled the handle down I watched the creamy dark brown espresso pour into the cups.   That was the real thing and as many of my friends would say “Now that’s Italian”.

If you love coffee, I mean Really LOVE it you should ask Tim for the “Full Monty” a cup full of espresso shots.  You will see it is one of the best cups of coffee in the land.

National Emergency Preparedness Month:Water part 1.

Share this link on facebook     twitter    google + etc

Water is the most important emergency supply there is.  A few years ago I was at a body building conference and got my picture taken with Lou Ferrigno   He was on a panel with a lot of fitness people and they were all asked

“what is the most important supplement for nutrition?”   Many of the trainers, coaches and authors had their favorite vitamin, powder, potion etc.  but Lou Ferrigno had the BEST answer….. “Water”  drink a half gallon to a gallon of water a day depending on how aggressive your workout is.  Everyone was blown away by his answer.  It just made too much sense.

Thanks Lou.

When it comes to emergency supplies WATER is the most important.

If you run out of clean water and all you have is “found” water you want to make sure it is safe before you drink it.  To be sure you have flitration that is portable you want to include in your Car bug out bag, your office bug out bag and your home kit a portable straw that will filter up to 20-25 gallons of water and is very small and light weight.  There are a couple of straws that I like in the $16 price range.  One is the Seychelle Water Filtration Staw

The Seychelle Pure Water Straw with Advanced filter is a technological breakthrough in water filtration for people on the go – anywhere, anytime!

Compact, easy to use and truly versatile in its attractive carrying case, the Pure Water Straw is like a miniature bottled water plant.

It’s ideal for traveling; in your purse, pocket, backpack, luggage, and car or for emergency preparedness. Every family should have several placed throughout the house; in backpacks, in car trunks or glove compartments!

The Pure Water Straw is a sure way of safeguarding the water you drink anywhere you go and best of all its 25-gallon capacity is equal to about 189 half liters of bottled water, providing great-tasting clean water at a fraction of the cost. Never leave home without it!

Key Features:

  • Up to 25-gallon filter life.
  • Now with BIOSAFE®, removes up to 99.99% of bacteria, virus, contaminants and pollutants found in drinking water including Guardia, Cryptosporidium, and E-Coli Bacteria.
  • Proven effective against bacteria and virus to six logs reduction (99.9999%).
  • Waterproof carrying case.
  • Ideal for everyday use and disaster preparedness.
  • Ultra light and compact.
  • Non-toxic BPA free materials.
  • Tested by Independent laboratories using EPA /ANSI protocols and NSF Standards 42 and 53.
  • Costs less than bottled water.

The other portable filter straw I like is the Frontier Water Filter.

This lightweight, easy-to-use water filter is a perfect addition to your emergency kit. One unit will filter up to 20 gallons of water. Tests indicate that the Frontier Filter will remove 99.9% of Cryptosporidium and Giardia as well as other waterborne pathogens. The Frontier Water Filter is also easy to operate –  just attach and expand the straw, submerge the filter end into the water source, and drink through the straw.  Use the Frontier Emergency Water Filter System to drink from any bottle, cup, or directly from water sources.

  • Lightweight
  • Easy to use
  • Automatically purifies water
  • One unit filters up to 20 gallons
  • Removes 99.9&% of waterborne pathogens

Affiliate Marketing Helps Non Profit fund Research                   copy and paste this into facebook and twitter.

You can be part of the solution without giving a penny.  All you have to do is spend time on the internet buying things you would buy anyway and the affiliate pays the non profit for the referral.   If you like ebooks the leader in online publications has been very good to They Shall Walk and other non profits around the globe by paying 4% up to 20% (ebooks on the kindle are the best pay out).  They Shall Walk had an offer last year from a person who loves to read on her kindle.  She would write simple reviews for books she was reading anyway.

This started out great and Amazon started sending a little money to They Shall Walk every time one of you read the review and clicked to download. This was great to find a way to generate revenue for something that was already happening: She was reading books and you were buying them.  The difference was the affiliate marketing program and the logistics of getting paid for it.

This is one of the simple ways to help your favorite non profit generate revenue in the lean times.  Affiliate programs will continue to pay in more abundant times too.

They Shall Walk likes this program because a lot, and I mean a LOT of people who used to give generously have had to cut back.  Some of our supporters used to give $1000 per year and are now only able to give $25 per year and others can not give at all.  They do shop and one of our favorite affiliate programs is the Food Fund Raiser because everyone eats food and when they buy food They Shall Walk gets paid 10% or more.

The latest in the affiliate programs is the ZeekRewards program   You will be able to set up your own online store and every time you sell stuff you will be supporting They Shall Walk.  When you do make the big bucks we hope you will remember to make a donation to They Shall Walk but you do not have to, you can keep the money for yourself.  The ZeekRewards  program will pay They Shall Walk to continue it’s research and all you have to do is what you were going to do anyway.

It is a pretty new program and we have heard some people who are pretty well off have been earning big.  Check out the link and let us know what you think.
